Covid-19 in the Cable Assembly Sector - WH kemp

Coping with Covid-19 in the Cable Assembly Sector

To say it has been a tough year for British business, the economy and the nation’s welfare, is clearly a massive understatement. Covid-19 in the Cable Assembly Sector has inflicted indiscriminate havoc around the world and in an unrelenting manner.

There cannot be many enterprises and sectors of business that can claim to have avoided some degree of disruption. And, whilst at the time of writing there appears to be an ever-brightening light at the end of what has been a tiresomely long Covid-19 tunnel, sadly for many businesses, difficult challenges are likely to remain in place for some time.

It would be wrong to say WH Kemp has escaped the turmoil totally unscathed. After all, we found it necessary to apply a series of changes to our usual business practices, always with two paramount objectives in mind: (1) Keeping our workforce and management team safe, and (2) Ensuring our customers continue to receive the same high level of service they have become accustomed to over many years.

Introducing new logistical procedures, rescheduling production timetables, reconfiguring workstations and implementing socially distanced working measures, are just some examples of change we have put in place, to help ride out the Covid storm.

Covid-19 in the Cable Assembly Sector
and Maintaining Standards

Thankfully, our efforts were rewarded: The WH Kemp team did not miss one single hour of planned production in 2020. Despite the threatening backcloth of the pandemic, our factory remained open for business every single day, as we continued to manufacture and deliver our core products – Cable Assemblies, Wiring Harnesses and Control Panels.

With no interruption to our operations – not even a temporary shutdown – WH Kemp has maintained its proud record of unbroken service since 1967, its unrivalled reputation for high quality products and its sector leading RFT and OTIF performance.

Our People. Your Success.

I cannot praise enough, the dedication of our loyal and skilled workforce. Absenteeism has been exceptionally low, partly due to the rapid implementation of Covid-prevention safety procedures on the factory floor. However, I do believe a strong sense of camaraderie and team-spirited attitude played its part throughout the crisis, enabling us to discharge all customer contracts.

The team were especially delighted to have completed on time an important request for Wiring Harnesses and Cable Assemblies for installation inside life supporting machinery and for other critically important infrastructure projects.

Many of our customers have been quick – unprompted, I might add – to recognise the team’s efforts, with one commenting,

“Given the difficult climate faced by our respective businesses, I am astonished you’ve not missed a single delivery date for our Wiring Harnesses orders. We are grateful for the diligent manner and professionalism of your technicians, which in turn has certainly helped us to complete our own business objectives.”

100% Customer Retention

WH Kemp’s ability to meet its customer requirements and obligations in 2020 has meant all our customers pledging to continue working with us in 2021, with many already promising a raft of new projects. Retaining a long standing 100% customer retention rate is something we are very proud of, again another good reason to thank my team for going that extra mile in 2020, despite difficult circumstances.
