Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) are central to every buyer – we all want a high-quality product when we need it and at a good price. Here at WH Kemp quality keeps improving as we strive to fulfil all demands and as our cable harnesses are used in mission critical applications, quality is always a priority.
Our Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Manager, Claire Borovac, joined the company 10 years ago and has since worked with WH Kemp’s production and quality team to reduce customer rejects dramatically, from around 0.3% a decade ago to less than 0.05% today.
WH Kemp hold over 5,000 customer wiring harness drawings, and the Quality Control Team determine the best way of imparting customer-specific information to our cable assembly team for each and every product. This includes Standard Operating Procedures, photos, Critical To-Quality and Care Point notes for each cable assembly and wiring harness. As well as producing ongoing quality improvements, such processes link to enhanced efficiency, reduced lead times and greater staff motivation. Our cable assembly technicians have a great sense of pride in their work quality, and regularly come up with suggestions for process and product quality improvements.
Quality Keeps Improving from Start to Finish
WH Kemp’s focus on quality starts at the quote stage, where any drawing queries (such as compatibility of crimps and wire or obsolete parts) are discussed with the customer and alternatives often suggested. The company enjoys excellent relationships with cable assembly component suppliers who provide WH Kemp with favourable pricing given the company’s large size, financial stability and long history of cable harness manufacture.
Quality keeps improving with our New Projects Team, dedicated staff who ensure all relevant information is collated with the cable assembly drawings or instructions, this prior to any production build.
Once an assembly technician has built the first loom a member of the Quality Team will check it against the customer’s drawing, IPC standards and all related documentation. If this is correct the cable assembly technician continues to build the remainder of the batch.
Where the wiring harnesses have connectors, the technicians build bespoke test boards to electrically test the cable looms. When complete, the batch will go back to the Quality Team for Last Off/Final Inspection prior to despatch. All processes are embedded in the company’s Quality Management System which has been registered to ISO 9001 since 1997.
Right First Time, Every Time
By focussing on “right first time, every time” WH Kemp keeps rework times to a minimum which ensures product goes out on time and customers can be confident that WH Kemp’s cable harnesses can be delivered direct to their production floor. The company has its own transport for regional deliveries, and utilise national carriers for the longer journeys. Customer’s frequently request moving deliveries as they reschedule their production. WH Kemp always seeks to be helpful and flexible and it is not uncommon to quote, manufacture and deliver jobs within 48 hours and, on occasions, within a single day – with a personal delivery being made late in the evening.
WH Kemp works by the principle “we want the customers back, not the product”.
We actively encourage potential new customers to visit us in person. We would be delighted to take you on a tour of the site and introduce you to our friendly team who will gladly explain all aspects of our processes. Please call us on 01373 823322.
